EDGE 2010

"Feedback from delegates has been tremendous. The ease of finding information and booking was excellent and had a huge impact on attendees.  There were teething problems, as there always are, however it was the ease in which theses were dealt with that makes the difference.

Eileen, Julie, Gail and Emily of the ECB team were always extremely professional.  It made my job so very much easier knowing that I could contact any one of them and they had an answer every time.  The staff at ECB, in my opinion, are second to none and I have recommended ECB to many people. I cannot thank all of you enough for being there for me and helping to make EDGE2010 the roaring success it has been. My heartfelt thanks to everyone."

Liz McGettigan, Head of Libraries and Information Services, City of Edinburgh Council

ICMGP Conference

“The ECB are lifesavers.  I regularly run meetings for 50-200 people , but a meeting of over 1000 was just too big for me to contemplate.  But the wonderful people at the ECB sat me down, mopped my fevered brow, and took me through the whole process step-by-step. They explained everything from budgeting and registration through to how to “wow” my delegates at the gala dinner.  I went from being terrified to host the conference to being terrified I might NOT host the conference.”

Edinburgh Ambassador, Dr Lesley Sloss FRSC FIEnvSci -  Principal Environmental Consultant, International Energy Agency – Clean Coal Centre and United Nations Environment Programme

International Association of Forensic Mental Health Conference June 2009 which hosted 600 delegates.

“The Edinburgh Convention Bureau was vital to us winning the bid for the IAFMHS Conference and their help didn’t stop there!  They helped us to promote our event with a “visit Edinburgh” stand at the previous year’s conference in Vienna and provided endless support and advice on everything from booking accommodation to arranging entertainment at our social events.  There is not doubt that ECB’s contribution was valuable to us, all the team were approachable and helpful… always on the end of the phone with excellent and appropriate advice.”

Edinburgh Ambassador, Vivienne Gration - Forensic Network Manager, Forensic Network Scotland

Winning the International Neutron Scattering Conference 2013

“Edinburgh’s success was due to several key factors.  Edinburgh is an experienced conference location, and an extremely attractive venue for participants, the majority of whom will come from overseas.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre is ideally suited for hosting the conference, with upwards of 800 participants expected.  The excellent choice of nearby hotels and the availability of the University’s Pollock Halls for the many young scientists who will participate was a key factor.  The Edinburgh Convention Bureau supported me at all stages throughout the preparation of our bid, and I know that their continued support will be essential in making the conference a success.”

Professor Keith McEwen, University College London

British Society for Parasitology Conference 5 - 8 April 2009 450 delegates

“The conference was a great success.  We had been expecting 250 delegatesand nearly doubled our numbers!  The Edinburgh Convention Bureau staff were tremendously helpful and supportive to stressed out enquiries….I got help in choosing a venue for our conference dinner and ceilidh (Our Dynamic Earth ) and even a website which sold environmentally friendly conference bags.”

Edinburgh Ambassador, Dr Lee Innes - Principal Scientist and Communications Director
Organisation, Moredun Research Institute at Pentlands Science Park

Ambassador Event - Summer at Hopetoun House

In June, Edinburgh Ambassadors enjoyed a fantastic evening of archery and laser pigeon shooting at one of Scotland’s finest stately homes - Hopetoun House .

The House is set in 6500 acres of rolling parkland, ideal for taking part in these outdoor pursuits.  The Ambassadors also had an opportunity to explore the magnificent interior of this wonderful home thanks to a clever “Whodunnit” devised by Hopetoun staff. A welcome by Lord Hopetoun and the beautiful weather added to the enjoyment of the event.

“The whole evening was great, especially the real life Cluedo; the highlight for me was the archery, something I’ve always wanted to do”

Edinburgh Ambassador, Mark Hartl, Heriot - Watt University

“I thought that all the events in the evening were well done and enjoyable.  The staff were great and the talk from Lord Hopetoun also helped to ‘colour’ the evening with some enjoyable family anecdotes.”

Edinburgh Ambassador, David Stevenson  -  Edinburgh Napier University

Ambassador Event - Taste of Spain

Ambassadors attended an evening of Spanish wine tasting and fine dining at the newly refurbished and extended John McIntyre Conference Centre at Edinburgh First.

"It really was a splendid evening and is a great tribute to you all. Well organised, fine dining and surroundings and excellent service."

Edinburgh Ambassador, Professor Joe McGeough - University of Edinburgh

Destination Edinburgh Event - November 2009

“I can look up venues on websites and in books but there's no substitute for actually visiting them and the opportunity to see the venues and other suppliers in action is always priceless...

Everybody looked after me extremely well and it was also very useful to meet the suppliers face-to-face both over dinner and at the workshop session the next morning.  Some I already knew but hadn't met in person and it was lovely to put faces to voices.”

Monica Bosworth, UK Events Manager, WSP UK
